Candle Care
Soy candles will develop a memory of the size of the melt pool; this means you should let the melt pool reach the edges of the container, the first two or three times you light the candle. This will see that all wax gets utilized. If there is wax remaining on one side, point the wick in that direction and once it has melted re-center the wick again.
Regular wick trimming is an important part of preventing the candle from smoking. If using a candle for 5 hours or more; trim the wick at least twice during that time. Trim the wick before re lighting. If the flame is flickering trim the wick. If a wick gets too long; it will bend to one side, causing uneven burning.
Avoid drafts when burning candles as this may cause dripping or spillage.
Keep your candle with a flow of oxygen especially if you plan to burn it for any length of time. Without oxygen the candle will smoke. The smaller and more confined the space, the more important it is to allow fresh air through now and again. However avoid breezy air flow.
Extinguishing your candles is best done with a metal instrument like a wick dipper; use the dipper to push the wick into the melt pool; this will avoid smoldering causing smoke to fill the room. It will also prolong the lovely aroma.
In the case of accidental spillage, clean up surface with warm soapy water for soy, or hot soapy water for palm. If it is a large amount; you can iron the excess up with paper.
