Candle History

From Roman times to the modern day

In Ancient times the Roman Empire lived inspired by opulence and ambiance. From their passion for luxury and their creative ingenuity arose the candle that we enjoy and treasure today.

* Did you know the Romans created the first wicked candles?

Beyond the Roman era and as little as 100 years ago, a shadow fell over the candle making industry. That shadow was the dark cloud of smoke emitted by petroleum based paraffin candles that made their way into our homes. A spin off of the Oil refining industry and a way to capitalize on the leftover by-product in endless petroleum drums.

* There are 11 known toxins in Paraffin, two of which are documented carcinogens.

Today there are many natural candles on the market. However the full ingredients of those candles are often disclosed due to them containing portions of paraffin or chemical stabilizers.
